ESMA proposes tighter rules for crypto influencers, staking and lending
The regulator’s MiCA review response calls for clearer safeguards around emerging crypto business models.
What ESMA wants
On 30 September ESMA proposed changes aimed at making MiCA clearer and better adapted to decentralised finance, staking, lending and borrowing.
Investor protection
Its priorities include marketing safeguards — particularly for influencers and third parties — improved cost transparency and proportionate disclosure obligations for certain yield-generating services.
Status
These are consultation recommendations for policymakers, not an announcement that new rules already apply.
